The evolution of a photographer

I started my photography journey about 3 years ago. I've come a long way in those 3 years, even I can see it. Along with improved skill, equipment upgrades, and educational costs comes higher prices. Unexpectedly, my business took a loss last year. A bad one. I've always wanted to be affordable and available to my friends for portraits that were within their reach, but after completing last year's tax reconciliation, I realized an increase in my pricing structure was a MUST!  However,  in comparison to the other amazing talent in the Jackson area, I think my pricing is still extremely competitive. It's always hard to go up on your prices, but I do hope my friends and clients see the value in quality work.

Let's take a look at my evolving style and skill:

This was mid 2011. This is sweet little Emma, the daughter of a family member. Overall, the image is pretty, but there are many technical errors.

Again, a family member, my niece Abby. I think the was either 2010 or 2011. At least my focus was sharp.

2012, I still love this image, but I knew nothing about white balance.

I started getting a little better in late 2012. I still real really love this picture of Andrew.

This is a mid-late 2013 image that I love. Still getting a little better. I was so discouraged with my family shots in 2011 that I didn't even offer them in 2012. I reintroduced family portraits in 2013 after I started to gain my confidence.

In late 2013 I learned some things about colors and white balance. I think this image still reflects the majority of my current style.

And then finally, I have evolved here. I took this image in April 2014. I'm getting closer to where I want to be.

You may continue to notice my work evolve over the next 2 months as I finish my final workshops and educational courses. This has been a fun blog post to write... hope you enjoyed it!
